Car rental insurance depends on several factors.
- The details of your policy. Not all policies cover rental cars, although many do.
- The purpose of the rental. Very few policies cover rentals for business purposes.
- Location of rental. Out of state and international travel may not be covered.
- Insurance needs. Even policies with rental car provisions may not give you the same level of coverage for a rental as for your personal vehicle.
Note that if your auto insurance does not sufficiently cover your rental, you may still get coverage through a third party, such as your credit card or through the rental company. Always read the details carefully. Alternate insurance may not cover bodily injury, which can be far more costly than property damage.
